What is zinc?

Zinc is the second most common essential trace element in the body after iron. It is vital and cannot be produced by the human body itself. [loggedin]In addition, the body can hardly store zinc, which is why it must be taken in regularly with food. Zinc plays a role in many bodily functions and is involved in a large number of chemical and biological processes [/loggedin]

Function of zinc drops

Zinc has the following functions and tasks in our body, among others:

  • contributes to the normal function of the immune system
  • contributes to normal acid-base, carbohydrate, macronutrient, fatty acid and vitamin A metabolism
  • contributes to normal protein synthesis
  • contributes to normal cognitive function
  • contributes to normal DNA synthesis
  • contributes to normal fertility and reproduction (reproductive capacity)
  • contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, hair, nails and skin
  • contributes to a normal testosterone level in the blood
  • contributes to normal vision
  • helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress
  • has a function in cell division

Who needs zinc?

Supplementation with zinc may be beneficial for

  • People who want to make an additional contribution to their immune system
  • People for whom the good condition of their bones, hair, nails and skin is important
  • People whose eating habits rarely include typical sources of zinc such as meat, fish, certain types of cheese (e.g. Emmental), oatmeal, soya and certain seeds and kernels (e.g. poppy seeds or pumpkin seeds)
  • Athletes, pregnant and breastfeeding women, children and adolescents, older people, menopausal women, people with a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle

Zinc Vida: Zinc drops with high bioavailability

Zinc Vida contains zinc in the form of zinc sulphate. The addition of the amino acid L-histidine forms a zinc-histidine complex[loggedin]which is very bioavailable. The WHO1 and the British Department of Health2 refer to zinc histidine in particular as a source of zinc for children [/loggedin].

About the Product

Zinc Vida and compatibility

Phytic acid, which is mainly found in cereals and pulses, forms insoluble complexes with zinc. These complexes can no longer be broken down in the intestine and the absorption of zinc from food is reduced. High concentrations of mustard oil glycosides, e.g. from radish, mustard, cress or cabbage, also lead to the formation of complexes with zinc. This leads us to the following conclusion:

  • Zinc from animal foods is more bioavailable than from plant foods, as animal foods do not contain absorption-inhibiting substances such as phytic acid, mustard oil glycosides or tannins. This can be critical for vegetarians and vegans.
  • It is better to take zinc supplements on an empty stomach to avoid complex formation with the absorption-inhibiting substances mentioned above. However, this can again lead to discomfort or nausea.

The trick in Zink Vida is that the addition of histidine creates a zinc-histidine complex in the bottle, which prevents the zinc from mixing with phytic acid, for example, to form a complex (because the zinc is already “occupied” by the histidine). However, this complex is less solid, can be dissolved again in the intestine and even increases the absorption and bioavailability of zinc. This means that the zinc can be taken with food and there is no nausea. This is why the addition of histidine is so important for bioavailability and tolerability!
