Vegetative characteristics of acerola

The leaves of the acerola cherry are usually 30-75 mm long and 15-40 mm wide. The leaf-stalks have a length of 1.5-2 mm, they are mostly hairless, only rarely sparsely curly-haired, which however loses with age. The green or red stipules are free, initially hairy with curly hairs, but also pale with age.

The umbelliferous or rarely clustered inflorescences consist of four to six flowers. The axis of the inflorescence is usually hairless, rarely hairy and 3-5 mm long. The acerola bracts are 1-1.5 mm long, the bracts are 0.5-1 mm long. The green, hairless or almost hairless flower stems have a length of 7-11 mm.

The buds usually have a diameter of 4-5 mm. Between sepals and petals there are usually six oil glands. The posterior petals are 6.5-9.5 mm long, the hem is occasionally sharply bent back. The middle petals are slightly shorter (5.5-7 mm), the shortest are the anterior petals (5.5-6.5 mm).

They are straight, 2.5-3 mm long. The styles are 2-2.5 mm long, the tip is blunted or cut off, the long ovary is not divided.
